Can You Say, "Social Networking?"

If you happen to be over the age of 14, you may have missed the latest social networking craze. But if you or someone you know is a fan of Disney actors, rappers and a wide variety of other celebrities (and celebrity hopefuls), you might want to check out the recent NY Times article about one of our publisher partners, SayNow.

For us, the article confirms something that we've known all along-that voice is a growing and thriving mode of communication that sometimes gets short shrift in today's smartphone-crazy media.

Don't get me wrong—I've got nothing against WAP, Apps and text. In fact, we're big into all of them on behalf of our advertisers and publishers. But as the Voice & Visual Mobile Ad Network, we believe that these things are only part of the bigger story of mobile.

Sometimes, you just have to take a step back and put things into perspective. According to some recent analysis, voice minutes are still almost 3x higher than the number of SMS messages being sent. And while about 25% of phones are now considered ‘Smart', a full 100% can do voice.

In fact, when it comes to things that matter to brand advertisers, voice is a powerful medium for making things happen. As the article says, "A voice message is more intimate and authentic than a status update." With it's universality, simplicity and emotional payload, voice is the killer app in social networking…and mobile advertising.
